HONOLULU - The University of Nevada's women's tennis team dropped its first dual match of the spring 4-3 at UH Tennis Complex to Hawai`i (1-1). The Wolf Pack plays #56 Washington on Friday at 3:00 p.m. PT before returning home from a training trip to Hawaii.
The Pack trailed 1-0 after the doubles matches. UH's Marina Hruba and Paulina Petriskova won the #3 doubles 6-2 over the Pack's Sara Korzeniecki and Monika Magusiak. The Rainbow Wahine earned the team point with a 6-4 victory by Marina Hruba and Paulina Petriskova over Nevada's Claudia Herrero and Adriana Gergelyova in #2 doubles. The Pack's #1 doubles team of Sheila Morales and Blaga Delic were ahead 5-4 when the doubles point was clinched.
UH scored the first win in doubles as Hrub defeated Delic 6-0, 6-1 in #3 singles. Nevada first point came from Morales as she won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 over Gealer. The Pack evened the score at 2-2 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory by Gergelyova in #4 singles.
Hawai`i won the next to two matches to secure the victory. Petriskova defeated Korzeniecki in three sets 3-6, 6-4 and 6-2. Roxanne took the #6 singles 7-6 (10-8) and 6-2 to clinch the victory for the Rainbow Wahine.
The Pack's third point came in #1 singles as Herrero needed three sets to defeat Nguyen 6-0, 5-7 and 6-4. The ITA has Herrero ranked 113th in singles heading into the spring season.
