SAN JOSE, Calif. -- After topping second-place San Jose State on Friday and falling to the Spartans yesterday, the Nevada softball team could not take the rubber match of a three-game series as SJSU defeated the Wolf Pack, 7-1, in San Jose, Calif. on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore
McKenna Isenberg took the loss for the Pack (15-35, 5-16 MW) despite only surrendering three runs in 3.2 innings of work. Freshman
Jennifer Purcell went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and senior
Karley Hopkins also went 1-for-3 with a double, her 15th of the season.
After SJSU pushed across one run in the bottom of the first and two runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead, Nevada got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth. With one out, sophomore
Raquel Martinez reached first on a walk and took second for her eighth stolen base of the season. After sophomore
Nikki Orozco walked to give the Pack runner on first and second, Purcell ripped an opposite field single through the left side that scored Martinez from second and made it a 3-1 game.
Despite cutting its deficit to two, the Spartans, who lead every major offensive category in the Mountain West, would extend its lead to 7-1 to seal the series victory.
The Pack will return home this next weekend where they will face Colorado State in the final home series for seniors
Megan Dortch,
Alexa Youngberg,
Molly McWilliams,
Ashley Butera and
Karley Hopkins. The Senior Day ceremony will be held before Saturday's game at noon.
