Day One Results SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Sophomore
Nicole Wadden collected three PR's on day one of the Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships and sits in fourth place heading into day two of the heptathlon.
"Nicole did a great job of competing today," said assistant coach Scott Williamson. "She had lifetime PR's in three of the four events and has a 156 point day one PR. Anytime you can put together PR's at a conference meet that is a good thing and she is setting herself up to have a great finish and score some points for the team!"
Wednesday's first day of action in the heptathlon featured four events, the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m dash. Following those four events, Wadden collected a day-one PR total of 3,180 points, good for fourth place. She is 17 points behind Jessica Green of Colorado State for third. Chari Hawkins of Utah State leads the way by accumulating 3,494 points.
In Wadden's first event of the day, the 100m hurdles, she ran to a PR time of 14.45 seconds, fourth-best time in the field. The other track event being run today, the 200m dash, Wadden also collected a PR by clocking in at 25.45 seconds, the second-best time of the day. In the field events, Wadden tied for second in the high jump with a mark of 5'8" (1.73m) and threw a mark of 32'8.5" (9.97m) in the shot put.
"This a great start for what will be an amazing championship," head coach Shantel Twiggs said. "We have been preparing for this championship all year and seeing things come to be is pretty fun. The set up for day two is perfect."
Wadden will conclude the heptathlon on Thursday with the long jump, javelin and 800m run. The rest of the Wolf Pack track & field team will get started on Friday from the SDSU Sports Deck.
