John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Watch List
RENO, Nev. -- Sophomore Trenton Brooks has been recognized for both his production in the batter's box and on the mound, being named to the 2015 John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award. The National College Baseball Hall of Fame announced Brooks as one of 36 players named to the list and the lone representative of the Mountain West.
A native of Alpine, Calif., Brooks has been stellar in multiple roles for the 22nd-ranked Wolf Pack (31-10). this season. On offense, the 6-foot slugger is batting .342, which ranks third on the team and 12th in the Mountain West. Brooks - a 2014 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American -- has belted 13 doubles, two triples and three home runs and ranks second in the league with 44 runs batted in.
Brooks has also made nine appearances on the mound this season, pitching 14.1 innings in seven relief appearances and two starts. The left-handed hurler boasts a 4.40 ERA and a 2-1 record. Brooks has 13 strikeouts compared to seven walks and has allowed just seven earned runs on the year.
Brooks provided one of Nevada's top freshman seasons in recent memory last year, batting .330 to lead the team while registering a 3.86 ERA.
This award is named for former Washington State University standout John Olerud, who achieved success both as a first baseman and left-handed pitcher during the late 1980s and who was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007. The award will be presented as part of the Hall of Fame's Night of Champions celebration, June 28-29 in Lubbock, Texas.
Brooks and the Wolf Pack will return to the diamond this weekend, hosting San José State from April 24-26 at Peccole Park. First pitch times are set for 6 p.m., 2 p.m. and 1 p.m. PT.
