Weekly Notes
RENO, Nev. -- After a weekend off from competition, the Nevada track & field team is back at it, sending its student-athletes to compete at multiple venues throughout the week.
"When I look at where we are and where we are trying to go, I like where we are sitting at this point in the season. Coming off a strong weekend of training, we're excited to test ourselves in competition again," said head coach Shantel Twiggs. "You will see a weekend filled with personal bests, Nevada top-10 marks, and school records. This should be a fun weekend along with some great competition. Our goal is to execute each event and build off previous successes in preparation for the upcoming championship season."
The week of competition opens up on Wednesday with the heptathlon athletes competing at Azuza Pacific. Beginning on Thursday, a combination of individuals will be competing at multiple venues that include the Mt. Sac Relays, the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Beach Invitational.
Sophomore Nicole Wadden is in search of a strong showing in her first heptathlon competition of the 2015 outdoor season. Wadden has consistently been putting together solid individual finishes in the heptathlon events in previous meets and looks to put it all together on Wednesday.
On Thursday, distance specialist Emily Myers is back in action and will try her hand at the 10,000m at the Mt. Sac Relays. In her last meet, Myers set a new school record in the 5000m at the Legends Invitational. On Friday, the team will take a divided approach and compete at both the Mt. Sac Relays and the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Representing Nevada at the Mt. Sac Relays on Friday will be sophomore Fiyin Olusola (100m hurdles), freshman Katherine Surin (400m), freshman Alexandra Tierney (400m hurdles) and junior Alison Powers (pole vault), who set a school record of her own in her event a couple of weeks back.
The rest of the team will compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational and both Olusola and Surin will be pulling double duty, heading over to Bryan Clay after their races at Mt. Sac. At Bryan Clay, from the javelin to the discus, the 100m hurdles to the 200m dash, and the high jump to the triple jump, the Pack will make its mark throughout the meet.
