RENO, Nev. -- The University of Nevada (6-8, 0-2 MW) women's tennis team lost a Mountain West match 4-1 to #72 San Diego State (9-9, 1-1 MW) on Sunday afternoon at Caughlin Club. The loss snapped the Wolf Pack's three-match win streak and leaves them 6-8 on the season and 0-2 in the MW. The Aztecs improved to 9-9 and 1-1 in conference play.
Nevada plays at Fresno State (14-3, 3-0 MW) on Friday at 11 a.m.
The Pack won the #1 and #2 doubles matches to secure the team point. Sheila Morales and Blaga Delic won #1 doubles 6-2 over Kristin Buth and Isabelle Hoorn. Juliette Legendre and Sheila Smiley downed Hailey Johnson and Kennedy Davis 6-3 in #2 doubles to secure the point for Nevada. Dora Somoracz and Paola Diaz won the #3 doubles for SDSU 6-3 over Elissa Pavelea and Monika Magusiak.
The Aztecs won all four singles matches that were complete to take the match 4-1. SDSU's Tami Nguyen won the first set 6-1 and led 3-2 in the second when Legendre was forced to retire with an injury in #2 singles. Somoracz put the Aztecs on top to stay with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Pavelea at #6 singles. Diaz won #5 singles 6-1, 6-0 and it was 3-1 in favor of SDSU.
Davis clinched the match with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at #3 singles over Smiley as SDSU had the fourth point needed to win the match.
Morales and Buth had each won a set in the #1 singles match when it was stopped. Morales won the first set 6-0 and dropped set two 6-4.
Delic won the first set over Johnson 6-0 in #4 singles and lost 6-4 in the second set when that match was stopped.
