RENO, Nev. - University of Nevada track & field sophomore
Fiyin Olusola has earned a spot in this year's 2015 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships in the 100m hurdles.
Olusola qualified for the national meet this past weekend at the Hornet Invite. The California native ran to the event win in the 100m hurdles by clocking in at 13.62 seconds, tying the meet record set by Dinesha Bean a year ago. Her time not only established a new personal record, besting her previous PR of 13.86 seconds set in the season opener, but it also ranks as the second-fastest time in the Nevada all-time outdoor record book. It is the best time in the Mountain West so far this outdoor season and ranks sixth in the west region and ninth nationally.
Needing a time of 14.04 seconds or better, Olusola's time of 13.62 seconds locks her into the national meet, which will be held June 25-28 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. If she finishes in the top-two in her event, she would have an opportunity to qualify and represent the United States in the Pan Am Junior Meet.
Nevada will take next weekend off from competition and return to the track April 3-4 for the Legends Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif., hosted by UCLA.
