NCAA Championship Day 1 Prelim Results
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Junior Yawen Li finished within one second of her 200-yard IM program record, placing 32nd out of 70 competitors in 1:58.72 on Thursday. Li and sophomore Teresa Baerens represented the Nevada swimming and diving team in day one of the 2015 NCAA Championships at the Greensboro Aquatics Center.
Li - the MW Swimmer of the Year - swam the first of her three qualifying events while leading the Wolf Pack in the 200 IM. The two-time all-conference selection shaved a second off her 2014 NCAA Championships time to place 32nd (1:58.72) in the preliminaries. Li placed 45th in the 200 IM last season. The Wuhan, China, native will compete in the 400-yard IM on Friday and the 200-yard breaststroke on Saturday.
Baerens, a two-time All-Mountain West selection, also competed in the 200 IM - her first of three NCAA events. The Ottobrun, Germany, native finished in 2:01.04 to place 64th. Baerens will also swim in the 200-yard freestyle on Friday and the 100-yard freestyle on Saturday.
Junior Krysta Palmer will open competition on Friday with the three-meter springboard before competing in platform on Saturday. Palmer is the MW Diver of the Year.
Day two of competition at the NCAA Championships will begin with preliminary action at 8 a.m. (PT). Finals will begin at 4 p.m.
