FAIRBANKS, Alaska - University of Nevada Freshman Emily Capaul placed 37th out of 44 competitors in air rifle at the NCAA Rifle Championship on Saturday. Capaul was the Wolf Pack's lone representative at the championship hosted by the University of Alaska in Fairbanks.
Capaul shot 583 which is 11 points off her high of 594 that came in the NCAA Qualifier at UTEP the final week of the regular season. The 594 ranked sixth heading into the championship. In her six rounds today she shot 96, 98, 96, 96, 98 and 99. West Virginia's Maren Prediger won the event with a score of 598. WVU took the top three spots in air rifle.
"Emily had a solid performance," head coach Fred Harvey said. "We look forward to her competing at Junior Olympics and next year's NCAA season."
Capaul was one of two at-large individuals selected to compete in air rifle at the NCAA Championship.
