DENVER - The University of Nevada (3-5) women's tennis team lost its first of two road matches in Colorado 5-2 at #65 Denver University (3-3) late on Friday night at the Colorado Athletic Club. The Wolf Pack dropped to 3-5 on the season while the Pioneers improved to 3-3. Nevada plays at #68 Colorado today 10 a.m. PT.
DU won the doubles point taking two of the three matches. The Pack's #2 doubles team of Sheila Smiley and Juliette Legendre won the only match in doubles defeating Michelle Garpenlov and Morgan Barnhill 7-5. The Pioneers' #1 team of Evy Van Genechten and Charlotte Derbyshire defeated Sheila Morales and Blaga Delic 6-2. Nevada's #3 pairing of Sara Korzeniecki and Elissa Pavelea fell 6-2 to Evy Van Genechten and Charlotte Derbyshire.
Nevada won the #2 and #3 singles matches. Legendre swept Sonja Radosevic 6-3, 6-0 in #2 singles. Smiley and Van Genechten split the first two sets of the #3 singles. Smiley rallied after dropping the first set 6-3 to win the second set 7-5 and won the tiebreaker 7-5.
DU won the other four singles matches to clinch the match victory 5-2. It took three sets for Slattery two win the #1 singles over Morales 6-2, 3-6 and 6-2. O'Loughlin won 6-2, 6-2 over Delic in #4 singles. Derbyshire won the #5 singles to clinch the match victory for the Pioneers defeating Korzeniecki 6-3, 6-2. Barnhill took the #6 singles 6-0, 6-0 over Magusiak.
