STOCKTON, Calif. - The University of Nevada (3-4) women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision at Pacific (4-2) on Sunday at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts. With the loss the Wolf Pack is 3-4 on the season while the Tigers improved to 4-2.
The Pack returns to action next weekend with two matches in Colorado. On Friday Nevada plays at Denver University and Saturday takes on Colorado at DU.
Nevada won the #1 and #2 doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Sheila Morales and Blaga Delic defeated Hana Ritterova and Iveta Masarova 6-3 in the #1 doubles match. In the #2 doubles pairings Juliette Legendre and Sheila Smiley won the tie breaker 7-5 to take the set 7-6 over Regina Suarez and Gergana Boncheva. Pacific's #3 team of Antonella Santeusanio and Cristina Saenz de Buruaga scored a 6-1 victory over the Pack's team of Elissa Pavelea and Sara Korzeniecki.
Morales, ranked 124th by the ITA, swept Masarova 6-4, 6-4 to earn the Pack a point in #1 singles. Smiley also earned a sweep in the #3 singles 6-2, 6-3 over Ferrari to score the Pack's third point of the match.
Pacific took four singles matches to win 4-3. Hana Ritterova earned the point in #2 singles downing Legendre 7-6 (7-1) and 6-1. Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz took the #4 singles over Delic 6-3, 6-4. In a three set match Boncheva downed Pavelea 2-6, 6-4, and 6-1. Antonella Santeusanio's victory in #6 singles came in a sweep of Korzeniecki 6-3, 6-3.
