ABILENE, Texas - Senior Austin Byler drove in five runs and the Nevada baseball team scored seven runs in the first two innings to defeat Abilene Christian, 9-6, Saturday at Crutcher Scott Field. The Wolf Pack used 13 hits - with 10 coming in the first two frames - to improve to 2-0 on the 2015 season.

Byler, a consensus preseason All-American, hit his second three-RBI home run of the season in the first inning to spark Nevada's win. The Wolf Pack received multi-hit games from four players and reached a double-digit hit total for the second straight game.

Senior RHP Jason Deitrich earned the win after allowing five hits and one earned run through six innings of work. Junior captain Adam Whitt earned the save after securing the game's final out as Nevada survived a four-run ninth inning from the Wildcats (0-2).

For the second straight game, the Wolf Pack opened the game with an offensive blitzkrieg, sending every batter in the lineup to the plate in the first inning. Kyle Hunt and Kewby Meyer reached base with a single and double before Byler cleared the bases with a three-RBI moonshot to left field - his 28th career home run. Nevada made it 4-0 in the first when junior Ryan Howell scored on an RBI groundout from sophomore Trenton Brooks.

Brooks added more fireworks in the second inning, blasting a two-RBI triple - Nevada's first triple of the season - to right field to score Howell and Byler. Brooks crossed home plate at the next at bat via Grant Fennell's RBI single. Brooks, a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America selection in 2015, has five RBI through two games this season.

Nevada added a run in the third and fourth frame, beginning with an RBI-single from Byler to score freshman Cole Krzmarzick in the third. Krzmarzick, a Bishop Gorman product, earned his first collegiate start. Junior Bryce Greager's third career home run expanded the Pack's lead to 9-0 in the fourth inning.

Meanwhile, Deitrich had a solid season debut, allowing just one baserunner through three innings. Abilene Christian's first hit came with a double in the bottom of the fourth. Deitrich had a team-best 2.80 ERA last season amongst Nevada's starting pitchers.

The Wildcats tested Nevada in the last four innings, scoring two runs in the sixth and four runs in the ninth. Whitt, who led the Pack in saves last season with seven, earned the final out of the game with runners on second and third to notch his first save in 2015.

Hunt (2-4), Byler (2-5), Howell (2-4) and Fennell (2-4) led the Wolf Pack bats with two hits apiece. Juniors Alex Lott and Zach Wilkins made their Wolf Pack debuts in relief of Deitrich.

The Wolf Pack will go for a season-opening sweep tomorrow, with first pitch set for 11 a.m. (PT) in Abilene. Nevada will then travel to Lubbock, Texas, for Tuesday's game with No. 12 Texas Tech.
