EL PASO, Texas. - The 14th ranked University of Nevada rifle team had a perfect weekend winning three matches hosted by UTEP. The Wolf Pack won two matches on Friday and once on Sunday.
Competing against UTEP and Jacksonville State on Saturday the Pack shot 4650 to outdistance JSU 4625 and the Miners 4588.
"Our smallbore was good and our air rifle adequate at UTEP," head coach Fred Harvey said. "We had great performances from Mitchell in both guns and good performances from Greta with a new air rifle."
Mitchell Van Patten posted the top score in smallbore with his 585 on Friday. Sara Jameson's 581 was the second best score of the day. As a team the Pack shot 2306.
In air rifle Van Patten and Greta Ochsner tied for team honors with a 586. Emily Capaul and Jameson each shot 581 as the team totaled 2334.
Sunday the Pack scored a 4636-4628 victory over JSU. Van Patten once again posted the top performance in smallbore with his 570. Justin Nissen and Jameson shot 576 and 575 respectively. Nevada won smallbore 2300-2291.
JSU won the air rifle by just one point, 2337-2336. Van Patten's 591 was second best score in the event. Ochsner shot 585.
Nevada is off this week as they host an open house on the second floor of Genomics Center located at 910 Valley Road from 1-4 p.m. Those in attendance will get a chance to try their hand at target shooting.
