Nevada Baseball 2016 Schedule
RENO, Nev. - The Nevada baseball team has released its 2016 schedule, which includes 55 regular season games and 23 contests at Peccole Park, head coach T.J. Bruce announced. The Wolf Pack will also play four teams that advantage to NCAA Regionals last season.
"We are really looking forward to the opportunity that our 2016 schedule presents to our program," said Bruce. "The non-conference schedule will undoubtedly prepare us for Mountain West conference play."
Nevada will begin a new era of Wolf Pack baseball on Feb. 19 with a season-opening double header, marking the first game at Nevada for Bruce, who spent the previous five seasons as an assistant at UCLA. The Pack opens the season with a four-game series against Northwestern of the Big Ten on Feb. 19-21 at Sloan Park in Mesa, Ariz.
The Wolf Pack's nonconference slate consists of three teams that advanced to the postseason last year. The Pack will meet Arizona State, who went 18-12 in the Pac-12 and advanced to the NCAA Fullerton Regional last year, on Feb. 21 in Tempe, Ariz.
Nevada will also host the reigning BIG EAST tournament and regular season champions as St. John's visits Peccole Park from March 18-20. The Red Storm went 41-16 last season and were finalists at the NCAA Stillwater Regionals.
The Pack will also meet another 40-win team in nonconference play on April 18, playing at UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos went 40-17 last season and hosted an NCAA Regional.
Nevada enters Mountain West play on March 4, opening a three-game series at Air Force. The Pack will play 10 three-game conference series this season with two series against New Mexico, Air Force, San Diego State and UNLV. Nevada will play just one conference series against Fresno State and San José State.
The Wolf Pack's home opener is set for Tuesday, March 1 as Nevada hosts Santa Clara at 3 p.m. PT at Peccole Park. Nevada will also close the regular season at Peccole, hosting rivals UNLV from May 19-21 in a Governor's Series battle.
The 2016 Mountain West Tournament will be hosted by New Mexico from May 25-29 at Lobo Field in Albuquerque, N.M.
In total, Nevada's 18 opponents for the 2016 season boast a combined 519-496 (.511) record from last year. The Wolf Pack will meet four teams that advanced to NCAA postseason competition and three teams that won 40 games last season.
Nevada returns 22 player, including 13 letter winners, from last year's team that posted a 41-15 record and won the school's first-ever Mountain West title. Additionally, the Pack returns MW Player of the Year Trenton Brooks and MW Pitcher of the Year Christian Stolo. Nevada also welcomed 10 newcomers - which consists of seven transfers and three freshmen - to its roster.
