Friday Results

NAMPA, Idaho - The University of Nevada track & field indoor season is officially underway after the Wolf Pack completed day one of the Ed Jacoby Invitational/Multi, hosted by Boise State.

Although not many competed on Friday, the Pack still displayed some strong finishes on day one. The distance medley relay team of Meagan Wood, Katelin Westerterp, Reighan Fisher and McKenna Evans cruised to a second place finish in the event by clocking in at 12:18.19. Mountain West foe Utah State won the event by a three second advantage.

Another runner-up finish for Nevada came in the 20 lb. weight throw as redshirt freshman Tara Park posted a 13.25m final throw to notch second place.

"The distance medley relay team performed well in their second place finish. The ladies raced really well and it's great to finish out day one," head coach Shantel Twiggs said. "Trying their hand at a new event, the 20lb weight throw, Tara threw well, we see a lot of potential there and once she gets the third turn under control we expect bigger marks."

Nevada had one more competitor in the weight throw with sophomore Anna DuBois. DuBois collected a mark of 12.22m to grab hold of fifth place in the field of 10 throwers.

In the big event of the evening, the indoor pentathlon, sophomore Nicole Wadden placed third overall with 3,494 total points, good for eighth all-time in the indoor record books and is the second best personal mark of her career. Fellow sophomore Savanna Haverfield also took part in the event, finishing in eighth out of 11.

"Anna decided to add to the arsenal in throwing weight, and with one turn we have a ways to go but the potential is there," said Twiggs. "Multis also competed well. With a gutsy effort, Nicole finished in third place in the 800m to help her finish third overall. Savanna, a javelin thrower by trade, decided to try her hand at the multi mid-way through the fall and she is showing great potential, expect to see more from her."

Nevada continues the Ed Jacoby Invitational/Multi all day Saturday with live scoring available at broncosports.com.
