RENO, Nev. - Junior Krysta Palmer has been named Mountain West Diver of the Week following her performance at the Hawai'i Diving Invitational, the conference office announced today. The Carson City, Nev., native won the 1-meter and platform dives in Honolulu to secure her third weekly award of the season.
An All-Mountain West selection in 2014, Palmer scored 317.65 to win the 1-meter competition on Thursday by over 30 points. She now owns the top two scores in the MW in the 1-meter dive this season. Palmer followed by dominating the platform event on Friday, winning by over 70 points with a score of 328. Palmer's platform score ranks first in the conference this season.
Palmer has won all six dives she has competed in this season, setting NCAA Zone Qualifying scores in each dive. She earned MW Diver of the Week honors in October after capturing the 1 and 3-meter titles against Fresno State. Palmer then earned her second honor of the season after setting career-high scores and winning the 1 and 3-meter titles against UC Davis.
Palmer owns the top three scores in the MW in each diving event. Head diving coach Jian Li You has coached a conference diver of the year in three straight seasons. Head coach Abby Steketee and Nevada has tallied four players of the week this season, coming three times from Palmer and once from junior swimmer Yawen Li.
Palmer and the Wolf Pack (7-1) will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 24, against San Jose State on Senior Day. Nevada and the Spartans will compete at 11 a.m. (PT) in Lombardi Pool.
