BERKELEY, Calif. -- The University of Nevada women's tennis team opened their 2014-15 season in Berkeley, CA as the Golden Bears host the annual Cal Nike Fall Invitational from Friday through Sunday at the Hellman Tennis Complex and the Channing Tennis Courts.

"I am very proud of how the players handled their first matches" head coach Guillaume Tonelli said. "They had a great attitude and fought hard. We are finding out what we have done well at practice and what we need to keep improving. Competing against top teams like ASU, CAL, and Saint Mary's, the girls represented the Wolf Pack very well."

Sheila Smiley led the way for the Pack on Friday, as she was 2-0 in the ITA Gold Singles main draw bracket by defeating Ines Teixeira of San Francisco (USF), by a score of 3-6;6-4;6-3 and Hannah Stone of Cal Poly, by a score of 6-3;6-2. She awaits a quarterfinal showdown with Layla Sanders of UC Davis on Saturday.

Juliette Legendre grabbed two victories in her ITA Gold Singles main draw bracket, dominating the court against Stephanie Lin of Cal, by a score of 6-3;7-5 and Savannah Ware of BYU, by a score of 2-6;6-4;6-4. She looks to play Cessi Estlander of Cal on Saturday for a quarterfinal face-off.

In doubles, Blaga Delic teamed up with Sheila Morales in the ITA Gold Doubles main draw bracket, as they battled past the duo Chelby Cooke and Zeina El Tawil of Santa Clara, by a score of 8-5. Delic and Morales are scheduled to play San Jose's Julianna Bacelar and Malin Cubucku on day two.
