RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada rifle team is ranked 17th in the preseason Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association poll. The Wolf Pack started last season 13th in the preseason poll.
West Virginia tops the poll followed by Alaska, Kentucky, Nebraska and TCU round out the top five. The Pack competes in the six-team Patriot Rifle Conference and all six schools appear in the top 20. Four of the teams appear in the top seven with Alaska being the top ranked team at second. TCU, Ohio State and Air Force are fifth, sixth and seventh respectively. Nevada is 17th and UTEP is 20th in the first poll of the season.
The team is comprised of both men and women and they compete in both small bore and air rifle. Nevada begins the season at home with a PRC match against UTEP on Oct. 4. The smallbore is the first event of the day and will take place at the smallbore range located in the parking lot near Nevada's baseball field, Peccole Park starting at 8 a.m. Air rifle will follow at the Pack rifle range located on the second floor in the Nevada Genomics Center at 910 Valley Road.
