Nevada swimming team and two individuals earn academic honors
RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada swimming team has earned Scholar All-America honors as selected by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. The team posted a team grade point average of 3.37. It is the fourth consecutive semester under second-year head coach Abby Steketee the team has earned the academic honor.
"Earning this award for four consecutive semesters shows that our student-athletes are dedicated to academics and that our entire department is committed to the educational mission of the University," Steketee said.
A pair of individuals Sita Kusserow and Luiza Vieira earned honorable mention individual Scholar All-America honors from the CSCAA. A native of Buehl, Germany, Kusserow just completed her freshman year working on a degree in biochemistry.
"As just a freshman, Sita showed remarkable determination and industriousness," Steketee added. "She not only excelled in biochemistry, but she was named to the All-MW team and finished ninth in the 200 fly at German Nationals in April."
