RENO, Nev. -- The University of Nevada women's tennis team could not come out victorious on Saturday, falling by to Denver by a score of 5-2.

In its first home match of the season, the Wolf Pack (5-3) started hot but eventually was topped by the Pioneers (4-6). Nevada started by winning 2-of-3 doubles matches for the early point, but could only capture one singles win to finish the day. According to head coach Guillaume Tonelli, it was nice to play at home, but he wished the outcome could have been different.

"It felt good to play here in on our own home courts for a change," he said. "You always want to win, but even more so when you play at home. We'll continue to practice and improve from here."

Nevada dropped the first doubles match on court No. 3, but was able to respond when Michelle Okhremchuk and Sheila Morales Hidalgo topped Kathyn Hughes and Sonja Radosevic on court No. 1 by a score of 8-6. With all eyes on court No. 2, it was only fitting the match went to a tiebreaker. There, Sheila Smiley and Juliette Legendre pulled out the win in front the home fans 8-7(9-7).

The only singles victory of the came from Okhremchuk, as she powered past Maureen Slattery on court No. 1 by a score of 7-6(7-2), 4-6, 6-2. The win gives her 79 in her career, only four behind Tracy King (83) for most career singles victories at Nevada.

The Wolf Pack will be in action again on March 6 when it travels to Utah for a two-match road trip with BYU and USF.
