RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada rifle team currently ranked 11th in the latest Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association poll has a tough task this weekend facing third ranked Jacksonville State and TCU who is tied for fourth. TCU is hosting the weekend at TCU Rifle Range in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Wolf Pack compete against JSU on Friday and both teams on Saturday. The Pack is 3-3 on the season and all six matches have been Patriot Rifle Conference contests. The TCU match this weekend is a PRC event.
“We look forward to shooting with two of the nation’s top five teams,” head coach
Fred Harvey said. “TCU is always a great host and JSU is always a challenge.”
Nevada shot 4646 in a loss to fifth ranked Air Force in its last match on Oct. 18. Despite the loss the Wolf Pack had an outstanding day posting the best team score in three seasons. The 2308 in smallbore was the fifth best in the last 20 years. The 2338 in air rifle ranks among the top 10 scores in school history.
Freshman Emily Capual shot 593 to post the top score of the season in air rifle against Air Force match and tied for first in the event. Capaul’s 1168 aggregate score is the top this season on the team. Her 593 in smallbore and 575 in air rifle were both personal bests and are at the All-American level.
