RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada rifle team hosts UTEP on Saturday at 8 a.m. in the first competition of the season that is also a Patriot Rifle Conference match. The Wolf Pack is ranked 17th in the preseason Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association poll while the Miners are 20th.

"UTEP is an experienced and well coached team," head coach Fred Harvey said. "They will present a significant challenge. This is the opening match for both teams."

Nevada won two of the three matches from the Miners last season.

The team is comprised of both men and women and they compete in both small bore and air rifle. The smallbore is the first event of the day and will take place at the smallbore range located in the parking lot on the north side of Nevada's baseball field, Peccole Park starting at 8 a.m. Air rifle will follow at the Pack rifle range located on the second floor in the Nevada Genomics Center at 910 Valley Road.

Junior Greta Ochsner is expected to lead the team in her third year in the program. Ochsner competed at the National Junior Olympic Championships held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. in April. She placed 11th in the 50-meter three position smallbore and 42nd in the 10-meter air rifle.

Junior Lauren Zerkovich along with freshman Justin Nissen, Sara Tashima and Emily Capual are expected to among the top shooters on the team this season according to Harvey.
