Oct. 17, 2014 Final Stats RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada women's tennis team fell on day three in Albuquerque, New Mexico, eliminating the Pack from the tournament.
In doubles action, duo Blaga Delic and Sheila Smiley defeated Colorado State's Mollie Cooper and Aina Hernandez, by a score of 8-3. In their next round, they were defeated by Denver University's Gracia Mboko and Sonja Radosevic, by a score of 8-2.
Sheila Morales and Clarisse Treand had a great day on the court with three victory run. They defeated Utah's Cheng and Najera, by a score of 8-7, New Mexico's Dulski and Smith, by a score of 8-6, and New Mexico State's Alcaraz and Castillo, by a score of 8-4. Their run ended when they were defeated by Colorado's Steur and Wojcik, by a score of 8-5.
In singles action, Clarisse Treand defeated Montana State's W. Holopainen, by a score of 7-5, 7-5. Her run ended when Utah's Kovarcikova defeated her, by a score of 6-2, 7-5. Blaga Delic has a great day on the court. She rallied and defeated Air Force's Tran, by a score of 5-7, 6-2, 7-5. Her next round, she defeated UTEP's Daniel, by a score of 6-2, 6-1. In her last round of play she was defeated by Idaho's Bykova, by a score of 6-2, 6-1.
No. six seed Sheila Morales had a good run on the day. She started off the day with a bye then matched up against and defeated Air Force's Magday, by a score of 6-4, 6-1. Her run quickly ended as New Mexico State's Alcaraz defeated her, by a score of 7-6, 6-2.
Seniors Sheila Smiley and Juliette Legendre each knocked one victory individually on the day. Smiley defeated Colorado State's A. Hernandez, by a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. Her day ended with a defeat from New Mexico's Smith, by a score of 6-3, 7-5. Legendre defeated Montana State's N. Holopainen, by a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Her day ended, with a loss from Colorado's Steur, by a score of 6-1, 6-1.
"I am really proud of the players, they competed their hearts out" head coach Guillaume Tonelli said "The regionals tournament is not easy and they handled the matches really well. We know exactly where we stand we know our strengths and weaknesses, and we are getting back to practice for the San Jose State invitational. The freshman players are learning every single day and they're getting a lot of experience from traveling and competing at the highest Division I level. We are really excited about this coming season".
