RENO, Nev. - University of Nevada donor Wayne Frediani has made a donation to the athletics department to establish the Wayne A. Frediani Scholarship Endowment, Nevada Director of Athletics Cary Groth announced Monday.
The gift will provide a scholarship that will be presented annually to a male or female student-athlete who is pursuing a degree in the University of Nevada's College of Business. It will be awarded starting in the 2014-15 academic year and marks the 35th scholarship endowment for the Nevada athletics department.
"We want to thank Wayne for his generous gift that will provide scholarships to our student-athletes who are pursuing degrees in the College of Business," Groth said. "Scholarship endowments are the lifeblood of our athletics department and we are so appreciative of all of our donors who are committed to helping our student-athletes achieve their academic goals."
A native Nevadan, Frediani received his bachelor's degree in management from the University of Nevada in 1972. Currently the executive director of the Nevada Franchised Auto Dealers Association, Frediani has been a Wolf Pack donor and season ticketholder for 36 years. He was one of the founding steering committee members of the Starting 5, Nevada's men's basketball support group, and was responsible for developing the courtesy car program for the athletics department.
"My intent in setting up this endowment is to give back to the University, community and the College of Business. I have been a strong supporter of the education of student-athletes and have been committed to the success of the athletics department over many years and going forward," Frediani said.
