2012 All WAC Softball Get Acrobat Reader

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Four Nevada softball players were honored by the Western Athletic Conference as the league announced its All-WAC awards at a pre-tournament banquet Wednesday.

Sophomore outfielder Sara Parsons (Fallon, Nev.) earned first-team honors in the awards, which were voted on by the league's coaches and based on conference games only. Parsons led Nevada in WAC play with a .368 with a league-high eight doubles. She is Nevada's first representative on the first-team since 2009.

Junior outfielder Chelsea Barilli (Poway, Calif.) earned second-team honors along with sophomore shortstop Karley Hopkins (Sparks, Nev.) and sophomore pitcher Karlyn Jones (Sparks, Nev.). The four All-WAC honorees is the most for Nevada since the 2009 season.

Hopkins hit .328 in conference play with a .427 on-base percentage. She was also strong defensively, with just four errors in league play. Overall, she led Nevada in batting with a .333 average in 55 games.

Jones registered a 5-1 record in league play with a 3.20 earned-run average. She struck out 28 and walked just three in 46.0 innings pitched in league play. She also had a save and two shutouts.

Barilli batted. 311 in 20 league appearances with a double, triple and a home run. She was a perfect 6-of-6 in stolen bases, which was second in the WAC.

Fifth-seeded Nevada will begin play in the WAC Tournament today (Wednesday) at 3:30 p.m. (Pacific) against San Jose State, the fourth seed. The game will be broadcast in Northern Nevada on ESPN Radio 1450 AM.

Brigham Young's Delaney Willard was named WAC Player of the Year, while Hawai'i's Stephanie Ricketts was named Pitcher of the Year. Meanwhile, Hawai'i's Leisha Li'ili'i was named Freshman of the Year and Bob Coolen was named Coach of the Year.
