Final Stats

RENO, Nev. - Nevada yielded three runs in the first inning to No. 14 Hawaii and the Rainbow Wahine went on to a 6-0 victory in the opening game of a three-game Western Athletic Conference set.

Nevada (16-29, 6-7 WAC) had three hits and left five runners on base against Hawaii (36-4, 10-2)

The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at Hixson Park to wrap up the three-game series. Fans attending the football team's Silver and Blue Spring Game can get a free ticket at the game to attend the softball games for free.

Hawaii jumped out early, taking advantage of a pair of Mallary Darby walks in the first inning when Jessica Iwata homered to give the Rainbow Wahine a 3-0 lead. Hawaii extended the lead to 4-0 in the third on a solo shot by Sarah Robinson.

Nevada got it's first hit of the day off Hawaii ace Stephanie Ricketts in the second inning on an infield single by Sara Parsons. But she was left stranded and Nevada was hitless until the fourth when Parsons ripped her WAC-leading 15th double with two outs. But she was left stranded again.

After Hawaii scored once more in the top of the sixth, Nevada got something going in the bottom of the inning. Caylin Campbell led off with a single up the middle. After a groundout and a strikeout, Lauren Lastrapes reached on an error to bring Parsons to the plate. But Parsons lined out to second and the threat was tamed by Hawaii and the Rainbow Wahine went on to the win.

Darby (7-14) took the loss despite striking out seven on the day. She went the distance, giving up eight hits and six runs while walking two. Ricketts got the win with a complete-game three-hitter. She walked two and fanned six.
