LOGAN, Utah - The University of Nevada softball team pushed its winning streak to three games with a sweep of Utah State in a doubleheader Friday. The Wolf Pack won game one 8-7 in nine innings and game two 3-1.
Nevada moved to 12-23 (3-2 WAC) with the wins, while Utah State fell to 9-22 (1-4 WAC).
With Nevada trailing 7-6 going into the seventh inning of game one, Lauren Lastrapes homered to right-center field on an 0-2 pitch to tie the game. She was 1-5 with two RBI in game one.
The Pack banged out 11 hits, coming from behind to level its WAC record at 2-2. Caylin Campbell was 3-5 with an RBI. Chelsea Venable was 2-2 with a triple, a home run and an RBI. Karlyn Jones won in relief to go to 4-4 on the year.
In game two, the Pack scored once in the fourth and twice in the second to complete the sweep. Bailey Brewer gave Nevada a strong start for the second consecutive day, going 5.2 innings and giving up only one earned run. She struck out two Aggie hitters and issued one walk to go to 2-5 on the season.
Jones came in in the sixth and pitched 1.1 scoreless innings to record her third save of the season.
The game-winning run came in the form of Sara Parsons, as Megan Fincher singled to left field to drive her in. Emily Seidel, who played third base in the second game, drove in Fincher for the Pack's third run.
The two teams will close out the series with one game on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
