Final Stats

Reno, Nev. - The University of Nevada baseball team fell 7-1 to the Loyola Marymount Friday, in the first game of a three-game series at Peccole Park.

The loss dropped the Wolf Pack to 10-10, while LMU improved to 8-10.

LMU starter Colin Welmon won his third game of the season, going seven innings without surrendering a run to the Pack. He gave up four hits and struck out five hitters without a walk.

Nevada had eight hits in the game, but could not score until the bottom of the ninth inning. Ryan Teel drove in Brooks Klein for his third RBI of the season.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Pack had a chance to cut the deficit. Reliever Ryan Hawthorne gave up a walk to Jameson Rowe and a single to Kyle Hunt, putting runners at the corners with two down. Brett Jones lined out down the left-field line to end the inning.

Jones doubled in the fourth, his team-leading eighth of the season. He has now reached base successfully in the last 19 games. Brooks Klein was 2-4 with a run scored.

Bradey Shipley took his second loss of the year, going 5.1 innings and giving up three earned runs. He struck out five hitters, walked three and is 4-2 overall.

The teams will play game two of the series at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Peccole Park. Nevada baseball alumni who have gathered for the weekend will be honored in a ceremony prior to the game.
