NEW YORK - La Tijera Avery led a trio of Wolf Pack track and field athletes at the New Balance Invitational, clearing 1.80 meters and finishing second in the high jump at the Armory Track Saturday.
Avery competed in the championship flight of the high jump, setting a new personal best and posting the 13th highest mark in the country. Her standout performance opens the door for a possible berth at the NCAA National Championships. About 16 atheltes are taken in each individual event every season.
Nicole Williams competed in the college flight of the high jump, placing third with a height of 1.70 meters.
Deborah Amoah competed in three events at the Invitational. In the championship sections of the long jump and triple jump, she finished 15th and 20th respectively. She posted a distance of 5.70 meters in the high jump and 12.02 meters in the triple jump. She also finished 19th in the preliminary round (college flight) of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.97 seconds.
The Wolf Pack is scheduled to compete again next week, at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., on February 10 and 11.
