The University of Nevada Track and Field team finished in fifth place at the 2012 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championship at Jacksons Track in Nampa, Idaho on Saturday.

Utah State finished in first place with 144 points to win their first WAC Indoor Championship title. Idaho took second place with 110 points, a marked improvement from last season's last place finish. New Mexico State compiled 94 points for third place, and Louisiana Tech earned 89 points to claim fourth place. Nevada claimed fifth place with 86 points, followed by Fresno State in sixth place with 71 points. Hawai'i finished in seventh with 67 points.

For the women's individual awards, (voted upon by the coaches), Louisiana Tech's Chelsea Hayes won Field Performer of the Year and High Point Performer of the Year honors after tallying 33 points. Idaho's Hannah Kiser garnered Track Performer of the Year, and Nevada's Kashae Knox took home Freshman of the Year honors. Utah State's Greg Gensel was named Coach of the Year.

In the women's mile, Idaho's Hannah Kiser claimed her second title of the WAC Championship with a time of 4:45.67. Nevada's Samantha Diaz, last season's champion, took second with a time of 4:48.80. Erica Digby of Idaho took third with a time of 4:49.84.

Louisiana Tech sophomore Kim Francis repeated as champion in the women's 60-meter hurdles, with a time of 8.44 seconds. Nevada's Deborah Amoah took second with a personal record time of 8.60 seconds, and New Mexico State's Jndia Cleveland rounded out the top three, as she claimed bronze for a second-straight year, with a time of 8.67 seconds.

Louisiana Tech's Chelsea Hayes claimed gold in the women's 60-meter dash as she matched her own WAC-finals record 7.31 seconds. Nevada's Kashae Knox took silver with a time of 7.55 seconds, and her teammate Angelica Earls finished in third with a time of 7.60. The victory marks the eighth straight year the Louisiana Tech women have won the 60m dash.

In the women's triple jump, Hawai'i's Madara Apine claimed first with a season-best leap of 41 ft., 5 in. (12.62m), improving on last year's silver medal. Deborah Amoah took second with a leap of 39 ft., 10.50 in. (12.15m), while Sam Nielson of Utah State rounded out the top three, as she claimed the bronze with a jump of 39 ft., 5.75 in. (12.03m).

The team has some time off before traveling to Davis Calif. to participate in the Aggie Open on March 10.
