WHAT'S HAPPENING

The University of Nevada track and field team will head to Nampa, Idaho for the 2012 WAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-25 at the Jacksons Indoor Track at the Idaho Center. Nevada finished third with 88 points at the meet last season. The Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters captured the 2011 WAC Indoor Track & Field Championship, finishing the meet with 133 points.

"We are very excited about the WAC Championships," head coach Shantel Twiggs said. "Many of our athletes have been preparing for this moment since last outdoor season. Our goal is to execute, compete, and enjoy the moment. We are prepared and ready to go."

PREVIOUS HIGHLIGHTS

Nevada has had some impressive performances over the last couple of weeks in preparation for the championship meet. La Tijera Avery competed in the New Balance Invitational championship flight of the high jump, setting a new personal best and posting the 13th highest mark in the country.

Deborah Amoah and Angelica Earls led the team to several wins at the Boise State Team Challenge. Amoah finished with two top 10 Nevada performances, two first place finishes, and two personal best marks in the 60m hurdles (8.69) and triple jump (12.35m). Earls finished the challenge with a new school record in the 60m and 200m events. Earls recorded a 7.45 in the 60m and 24.38 in the 200m. Her 200m finish put her at third best in the WAC, while her 60m time was good for second best. Earls finished in third place in the 60m.

NEVADA IN PAST WAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Wolf Pack has won the WAC Indoor Title twice, with both of those wins coming on the Jacksons track in 2003 and 2004. The meet has been held at the facility for 10 straight seasons with seven teams competing for the title on the women's side this year. Louisiana Tech is looking to defend its crown, having won six in the last eight years.
