RENO, Nev. - Nevada head softball coach Matt Meuchel will coach with the USSSA Florida Pride of National Pro Fastpitch this summer, the University announced Friday.
"I am extremely honored to be working with the USSSA Pride this summer," Meuchel said. "They are a class organization that I am excited to be a part of."
Meuchel will be an assistant with the professional team out of Orlando, Fla., alongside FIU head coach Beth Torina. Tim Walton, the head coach at Florida, will be the head coach of the Pride.
"I have a ton of respect for Tim Walton and Beth Torina and it is a great opportunity to coach with them this summer on the Pride," Meuchel said.
National Pro Fastpitch (formerly the Women's Professional Softball League) has been in existence in some form since 1997. This year, four teams will play from June 10-August 21, with a championship series in Sulphur, La., from August 18-21.
The Pride is the defending NPF Champion, and boasts seven members of the USA Olympic team, including Cat Osterman, Natasha Wately, Jessica Mendoza, Caitlyn Lowe, Kelly Kretchman, Lauren Lappen, and Andrea Duran. Also a part of the roster this summer will be Canadian Olympian Danielle Lawrie.
On Friday, June 10, the Pride's first game against the Chicago Bandits will be televised on ESPN at 7:05pm EST.
