RENO, Nev. - University of Nevada head football coach Chris Ault announced Tuesday the hiring of former Stanford star and NFL running back Casey Moore as an assistant coach for the Wolf Pack football team.
Moore served as the offensive quality control coach for Nevada during the historic 2010 season. He assisted Ault with the coaching of the Wolf Pack's quarterbacks last season.
"Casey was a nice addition to my staff last year as the quality control coach and he really got a great introduction into our offensive scheme," Ault said. "His background as a Stanford running back coupled with his three years in the NFL lends itself well to the style of running backs we have developed. He did a nice job coaching our backs this past spring. I'm pleased he'll be a part of the staff."
Moore replaces Jim Mastro, who left after 11 seasons to take a position at UCLA.
"I am extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity that Coach Ault has given me," Moore said. "I will do everything I possibly can to ensure that the excellence at the running back position continues and I will push my players to be unrelenting in their desire to be the best at what they do."
Moore is a native of Largo, Fla., where he was an all-state football player and a three-sport athlete at St. Petersburg Catholic High School.
He went to Stanford where, after redshirting in 1998, became a starter as a redshirt freshman in 1999. He started all four seasons (44 consecutive games) for the Cardinal and was a two-time first-team Pac-10 All-Academic selection. He earned honorable mention all-conference in 2002.
Moore was picked in the seventh round of the NFL draft in 2003 by the Carolina Panthers and has an NFC Championship ring from his time with the Panthers. Moore also played with the Arizona Cardinals.
Following his NFL career, Moore returned to Stanford, where he worked two seasons (2008-09) as a graduate assistant coach. He received a bachelor's degree in public policy and he holds a Master's degree from Stanford in Policy Organization and Leadership Studies.
Moore and his wife Karen recently welcomed their first child, a son named Brady.
