Box Score RENO, Nev. - The Nevada baseball team (19-27, 8-10 WAC) defeated the Sacramento State Hornets (18-35, 5-14 WAC) 8-3 in game two of today's doubleheader.
RHP Tom Jameson (4-6, 5.48 ERA) was victorious today, holding the Hornets to just three runs (two earned) on seven hits in eight strong innings of work.
Nevada was held hitless through the first five innings before exploding for eight runs on eight hits in the last three innings.
Sacramento State starter Sam Kuykendall pitched tremendously over the first five innings, not allowing a base runner and striking out two Wolf Pack hitters. Carlos Escobar Jr. (2-for-3,2 RBI, 2 R) led off the sixth inning with a single through the left side to break up the perfect game and scored Nevada's first run of the game on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Waylen Sing Chow (1-for-3,RBI,R).
Trailing 3-1, Nick Melino led off the seventh inning with a single to left field and scored on a two out RBI-single by Escobar Jr. Joe Kohan (1-for-3,2 RBI, R) followed Escobar Jr. by hitting his fourth home run of the season over the left field wall. The two-run shot gave Nevada a 4-3 lead heading into the top of the eighth.
Jameson retired the first hitter he faced in the eighth and got Hornets designated hitter Hunter Adrian (0-for-3) to hit into a 1-6-3 double play to end the inning.
Michael Turay got the start at designated hitter and went 1-for-4 with two RBI.
Bryan Suarez (0-0, 4.66 ERA) got the first two outs of the ninth inning before Tyler Rogstad (0-0, 6.94 ERA) came in to get the final out of the contest.
Nevada looks to take game four from the Hornets tomorrow as Jeremy Cole will take the mound tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Peccole Park.
