RUSTON, La. - The University of Nevada women's tennis team shutout Louisiana Tech 7-0 Saturday to end its season, winning its sixth straight match in the process.
The win moved Nevada to 11-9 (5-1 WAC) while the Lady Techsters fell to 11-8 (0-5 WAC). The win also moved Nevada closer to securing the second overall seed in the upcoming WAC Championships, April 28-30 in Boise, Idaho.
The No. 2 seed would likely match Nevada up with Utah State, a team Nevada handled easily this season. The Pack defeated the Aggies 6-1, April 15 in Reno.
With one match remaining, Boise State is the only team that can challenge the Wolf Pack for the second spot. A full tournament bracket will be released Monday afternoon.
Against the Lady Techsters, Nevada lost only one of the nine matches played. Wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles secured the doubles point for the Pack, and a clean sweep of the singles matches earned it the victory.
In a dominant performance, Nevada did not allow any of the singles matches to go to a third set, and all six were played without tie-breakers.
Emma Verberne posted the best singles score, losing only one game in her 6-0, 6-1 victory over Maartie De Wit at the No. 4 position.
