RENO, Nev. – Nevada wide receiver Rishard Matthews picked up where he left off in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl with a strong performance in the Nevada football team’s first scrimmage of the spring on Saturday at Mackay Stadium.

Matthews caught five passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns – including a 65-yard strike from senior quarterback Tyler Lantrip on the first play – as the offense had a strong day in the scrimmage.

Nevada used all three quarterbacks extensively in the scrimmage. Lantrip was 5-of-14 for 128 yards and the TD to Matthews. Sophomore Mason Magleby connected on 8-of-16 for 153 yards and a touchdown – a 58-yarder to Matthews. Magleby also had a 12-yard touchdown run in which he bulled his way into the end zone for the last couple of yards. Redshirt freshman Cody Fajardo was 5-of-9 for 46 yards.

Nevada had just three running backs available for the scrimmage. Sophomore Stefphon Jefferson started and gained 46 yards on 10 carries with one touchdown – a plunge from a yard out. Nick Hale had 50 yards on seven carries while Nathan Lytle had 22 yards on five carries.

Defensively, redshirt freshman corner Charles Garrett recorded an interception while Jeremiah Green and Brandon Marshall each had sacks.

The team will scrimmage again on April 9 with the annual Silver and Blue Spring Game set for April 16.
