Box Score FRESNO, Calif. - The University of Nevada (11-20, 0-3 WAC) dropped the second game of a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader 4-2 to Fresno State (25-5, 5-2 WAC) at Pete Beiden Field Saturday afternoon. The Wolf Pack lost today's first game 8-1 leaving them 11-20 overall and 0-3 in conference play. The #14 Bulldogs improved to 25-5 on the year and 5-2 in WAC action.
Nevada took a lead for the first time in the series with a single run in the top of the second inning when designated hitter Brock Stassi doubled and came around to score on an error. FS got a solo home run from Brennan Gowens in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at 1-1.
Shortstop Garrett Weber hit a two-run homer as part of the Bulldogs three-run third inning and it was 4-1 FS. Nevada scored its final run of the game in the top of the fifth when catcher Carlos Escobar, Jr. doubled and eventually scored to make the final score 4-2. Both teams went scoreless the last four innings of the game.
Troy Marks (0-3) pitched well but was tagged with the loss allowing four runs, three earned on seven hits in seven innings on the mound. Tyler Linehan (2-1) earned the win giving up two runs, one earned in his 5.1 innings of work. Charlie Robertson (11) earned his 11th save of the season pitching a scoreless ninth.
Stassi (3-for-4,R) led the Pack with three hits while Escobar (2-for-4,R) and second baseman Joe Kohan (2-for-4) had two each. FS third baseman Danny Muno (2-for-4) topped the Bulldogs with two hits.
The final game of the series is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
