RENO, Nev. – The Wolf Pack offense scored five touchdowns in 16 series and took a 73-57 win over the defense in the modified scoring system used for the annual Silver and Blue Spring Game in front of an estimated 2,500 fans at Mackay Stadium on Saturday.
Sophomore running back Stefphon Jefferson ran for 137 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries to lead the offense. Senior quarterback Tyler Lantrip overcame a slow start and finished 8 of 18 for 108 yards and one touchdown through the air while rushing for another score.
The Pack defense forced six stops in the first eight series of the scrimmage and created three turnovers on the day.
The scoring system allowed the offense and defense to accumulate points beyond tradition scoring (touchdown = 6 points, extra point = 1 point, field goal = 3 points).
The Wolf Pack offense earned additional points with first downs (1 point), 15-yard (or more) running plays (2 points) and 20-yard (or more) passing plays (2 points).
