Box Score FRESNO, Calif. - The University of Nevada (11-18, 0-1 WAC) baseball team lost its Western Athletic Conference opener 8-3 to #14 Fresno State (23-5, 3-2 WAC) at Pete Beiden Field in Fresno, Calif. tonight.  The loss dropped the Wolf Pack to 11-18 on the season and 0-1 in WAC action while the Bulldogs improved to 23-5 and 3-2 in conference play.

Nevada tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the top of the eighth inning when second baseman Joe Kohan scored on a ground ball off the bat of third baseman Garrett Yrigoyen.   FS responded with five in the bottom of the inning to take control on the way to the 8-3 victory.

The Pack fought back throughout the game trailing 2-0 after three innings of play Nevada got an RBI double from designated hitter Brian Barnett in the fourth inning only to have FS score in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-1.  Nevada scored single runs in the sixth and eighth innings to tie the game but the Bulldogs' eighth inning proved to be too much.

Tim Culligan (1-2) took the loss allowing three runs on two hits in his two innings on the mound.  FS reliever Cody Kendall (5-0) earned his fifth win of the season giving up one run on three hits in 1.2 innings of action.

Barnett (2-for-3,RBI), Kohan (2-for-4,2R) and shortstop Braden Shipley (2-for-3) had two hits each to lead the Pack.  Barnett, Yrigoyen and first baseman Brock Stassi each drove in a run.

Bulldog left fielder Aaron Judge (4-for-5,2RBI) topped FS with four hits and drove in two runs on the night.

The series continues Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled to get underway at 2:05 p.m.  The first game is seven innings followed by a nine inning contest.
