RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada football team will open its 15-practice spring session on Friday at Wolf Pack Park.
Friday’s practice will mark the first of three consecutive days of workouts before the Pack settles into a Tuesday-Wednesday-Friday-Saturday routine for the final three weeks.
“Offensively, a priority is to develop our skill and depth at quarterback, wide receiver and running back. The tight end position will also be a critical piece this spring,” Nevada coach Chris Ault said. “Defensively, I want to see very aggressive competition and I want see some leadership emerge.”
Nevada lost one of the greatest senior classes in history from last year’s team that went 13-1, won a share of the WAC Championship and beat Boston College in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. The Wolf Pack returns 14 players (6 offense, 7 defense, 1 kicker) from last year’s squad.
A spring ball roster will be available Friday. The school will not release a depth chart until after sping practice.
The annual Silver and Blue spring game is scheduled for April 16 at Mackay Stadium. This year’s event will again feature a game-type atmosphere. The team will be split into two squads and the game will be played complete with public address announcers, music, concessions, cheerleaders, dance team and the band. The Fremont Cannon will be on display and the school’s ROTC will fire their cannon after every score.
Admission is free and the day will be full of “fan-fest” activities including: games for children and bounce houses; an Easter Egg Hunt; free BBQ samples from Famous Dave’s; pre-game tailgating in the north parking lot, autograph signing by players and coaches and other giveaways.
