Box Score RENO, NEV. - The University of Nevada baseball team (4-10) lost game one of a double header today at UC Santa Barbara today, falling 5-3 in game one.
RHP Jeremy Cole (0-2) made his third start of the year and was tagged with the loss in game one after giving four runs (three earned) in 5.1 innings. Cole held UCSB scoreless through the first two frames before giving up two runs in the third inning, one run in the fourth and one run in the sixth.
Nevada got on the board in the sixth inning when Brock Stassi and Nick Melino scored on a Hugo Hernandez double to left center. Hernandez's double cut the Wolf Pack's deficit to one, but UCSB added two runs of their own in the sixth. The double was Hernandez's and extended his hit streak to eight games.
Jayson McClaren entered the game for the Wolf Pack, with one out in the sixth in a 3-2 game, and gave up one inherited run and one of his own on a two out double to right field.
Braden Shipley scored Nevada's final run after leading off the seventh inning with an infield single. Shipley scored on Stassi's second single of the game. Overall, Stassi was 2-3 with a walk and an RBI.
RHP Jesse Meaux earned the win for UCSB giving up three runs on eight hits in seven innings.
