RENO, Nev. - University of Nevada diver Grace Huang recorded a score of 516.70 to claim ninth on the 1-meter at the Zone E Diving Championships held at the Minnesota Aquatics Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Huang finished ninth on the 3-meter March 10 with a score of 560.40. Teammate Stephanie Hansen placed 47th (190.65) in the preliminary round, missing the championship-round cutoff.
Huang and Hansen are competing against athletes from 20 universities, including No. 1 Stanford, No. 4 Cal, No. 6 Southern California, No. 7 Arizona, No. 21 UCLA, No. 24 San Diego State and No. 25 Arizona State. The freshmen are vying to become one of six divers selected from the field of 53 to advance to the NCAA Championships.
The meet will conclude tomorrow, March 12, with divers competing on the platform. Huang and Hansen have competed on the platform just twice this season. Most recently, the freshmen competed on the platform at the Western Athletic Conference Championships where Huang claimed second (219.60) and Hansen finished fourth (209.10). Previously, Huang and Hansen dove on the platform at the Wildcat Diving Invitational where Huang posted a score of 193.80 to finish 11th in the event and Hansen placed ninth with a score of 203.35.
