LAS VEGAS - The University of Nevada softball team (2-8) fell in its last two games at the 2011 Louisville Slugger Desert Classic Sunday.
The Wolf Pack fell to Portland State (5-4) 8-0 and Utah (4-4) by a final score of 12-8.
In game one, the Pack was unable to get going offensively, falling in five innings to the Vikings.
Anna Bertrand was tough to hit in the circle for Portland State, as she went five innings, surrendering only one hit and walking six. She struck out six to get her third win of the season.
In game two, the Pack and the Utes slugged out a combined 30 hits and 20 runs in seven innings. Megan Fincher hit her first home run of the season and Karley Hopkins went 4-4 with two runs scored and one run batted in.
The Pack scored in five of the seven innings played, including two-run first, third and fourth innings.
Danielle Patrick went 2-5 with two doubles and one run driven in and Britton Murdock went 3-5 with two runs batted in to lead the Pack offensively along with Hopkins and Fincher.
Mallary Darby took the loss, falling to 2-5 on the season. She struck out five and gave up seven hits in 4.2 innings. Darby was also saddled with the loss against Portland State even though she pitched 2.1 solid innings to keep Nevada in the contest.
The Pack will compete next when they travel to the Cathedral City Classic, Friday, Feb. 25 to take on the Northwestern Wildcats. The tournament will be the last on the road before Nevada returns home to host three tournaments at Hixson Park in March.
