In game one, the Pack defeated Appalachian State 4-2, as Mallary Darby (1-1) earned her first win of the young season.

Darby threw a complete game, striking out seven, allowing two hits and two walks.  Both of the Mountaineers runs were unearned.

Trailing 1-0, Nevada took the lead and control of the game in the fourth and fifth innings. After an RBI double by Chelsea Venable in the top half of the fourth, Jayme King singled home pinch-runner Kortnee Wiley, giving the Pack its first lead of the season at 2-1

After Darby shut down Appalachian State in the bottom of the fourth, Nevada increased its lead to 4-1 with two more runs in the top of the fifth.  Both runs were driven in by Lauren Lastrapes, who went 1-3 on the afternoon. Karley Hopkins singled and then Caylin Campbell reached on an error before Lastrapes came through with the two-out base hit.

Darby yielded an unearned run later in the game but otherwise was in control throughout the contest.

In game two of the day, the Pack ran into a buzzsaw in the form of No. 14 Oregon as Nevada fell to 1-3 on the season with a 0-0 defeat in five innings. The Ducks jumped all over freshman hurlers Bailey Brewer and Ariel Craig to the tune of seven runs in the first inning. Three Nevada errors and six illegal pitch calls by the umpiring crew did not help matters.

Danielle Patrick got the Pack’s lone hit in the game.

The Wolf Pack will be back in action on Sunday when it takes on Stanford at ASU’s Farrington Stadium in Tempe. First pitch is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. (Pacific).
