Tempe, Ariz. – No. 18 Stanford scored five times in the first inning and went on to top Nevada 10-2 in five innings in the final game of the Kajikawa Classic for the Wolf Pack.

Nevada fell to 1-4 on the year and Stanford went to 4-1. Mallary Darby (1-2) started and took the loss for Nevada as Darby failed to get out of the first inning. Freshman Ariel Craig pitched well in relief until a four-inning third inning ended her day. Fellow freshman Bailey Brewer gave up one run in the third before a scoreless fourth inning.

Nevada was led offensively by freshman Karley Hopkins, who capped a strong opening weekend with a pair of doubles in a 2-for-3 effort. Nevada scored twice in the fifth as Kortnee Wiley singled and Chelsea Barilli was hit by a pitch. Hopkins then doubled in Wiley and Barilli later scored on a wild pitch. But that was all of the offense Nevada could get off of the talented Cardinal pitching duo of Ashley Chinn and Teagan Gerhart.

The Wolf Pack will return to action on Thursday as it opens up play in the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas.
