ABOUT?THE?LONGWOOD?LANCERS - Longwood (1-3) is located in Farmville, Va. and competes as an independent. The Lancers are led by head coach Mike Gillian who is in his ninth season at Longwood. Gillian is 76-171 directing the Lancer basketball program including four seasons during the reclassification from NCAA?II to NCAA?I.
Longwood is 1-3 on the season and have lost its last two games including a 92-60 setback at BYU in the Chicago Invitational Challenge. The Lancers defeated Virginia Intermont 91-73 for the team's lone win on the season.
Senior center Antwan Carter (6-6) leads the team averaging a double-double scoring 17.8 points and grabbing 10.5 rebounds per game. From the field he is shooting 61.5 percent and has made 57.1 percent of his three-point attempts. Senior guard Jeremiah Bowman (6-2) is scoring 15.8 points and dishing out 3.5 assists per game. Bowman is shooting 61 percent from the field.
Offensively Longwood averages 76 points per game and allows 82.5 per game. As a team the Lancers shoot 44.2 percent and opponents are shooting 48.5 percent. From behind the arc they shoot 33.3 percent and their opponents shoot 42.2. At the free throw line the Lancers are shooting 53.8 percent. Longwood is being outrebounded by 10.5 rebounds per game, 44-33.5.
Last game: Wolf Pack Defeats Prairie View A&M, 60-47 - RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Jerry Evans, Jr. scored 11 points and Olek Czyz added 10 as Nevada beat Prairie View A&M 60-47 Sunday.
Deonte Burton scored nine points as the Wolf Pack (2-2) won the first-round Chicago Invitational game. Louis Munks scored a game-high 16 points for the Panthers (2-2).
Nevada jumped out to an 11-0 lead as Prairie View A&M missed its first 10 shots. The Wolf Pack led 31-21 at halftime. Evans scored seven points in a span of just over three minutes in the second half as Nevada took a 48-28 lead with 10 minutes to play.
Nevada will host Longwood in the second round of the Chicago Invitational while Prairie View A&M will be at BYU on Tuesday.
HUNT BREAKS?NEVADA BLOCKS?RECORD, TWO SHY OF 200 - Senior forward Dario Hunt broke the Nevada career blocks record in the season opener versus Missouri State with the 193rd block his career. Hunt came into the season tied with Nick Fazekas (2004-07) with 192. Currently he has 198 blocks leaving him two short of 200.
Hunt had six blocks in the Pack's 66-60 loss to New Mexico State in the WAC?Tournament last year to move into a tie with Fazekas. Hunt's 198 blocks have come in 104 games while Fazekas' 192 came in 131 games. Hunt has three of the top five seasons in school history with his best year of 67 during the 2008-09 season ranking third and is the freshman record. In 2009-10 he had 66 which are fourth on the list and his 59 last year ranks fifth.
Hunt is also climbing the Nevada rebounds career chart with his 734 ranking seventh. His nine in the MSU?game moved him over 700 for his career. Ric Herrin (1989-93) is sixth with 815 rebounds.
BURTON FIFTH PACK PLAYER TO EARN PRESEASON WAC POY NOD - Point guard Deonte Burton became the fifth Nevada player and sixth overall to be selected as the WAC?Coaches' Preseason Player of the Year. Kirk Snyder (2003-04), Nick Fazekas (2005-06 & 2006-07), Armon Johnson (2008-09) and Luke Babbitt (2009-10) were all preseason players of the year with Fazekas earning the honor twice. Snyder, Fazekas?(twice) and Babbitt all earned the honor at the end of the season when chosen as the preseason player of the year. Like Burton, Babbitt and Johnson were both sophomores when they earned the preseason honor.
A?Nevada player has been named the season ending WAC?Player of the Year in five of the last eight seasons with Fazekas grabbing the honor three consecutive seasons from 2003-2007.
Johnson and Babbitt are currently on the roster of the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers. Snyder was first round pick of the Utah Jazz and Fazekas was chosen in the second round by the Dallas Mavericks. Both played for several teams in the NBA.
Burton was the fourth Pack player to earn WAC?Freshman of the Year honors last year when he averaged 13.7 points and 3.5 assists per game. ?Ramon Sessions (2005), Johnson (2008) and Babbitt (2009) were the previous Nevada players named WAC?Freshman of the Year. Sessions, a second round pick of the Milwaukee Bucks, is currently on the roster of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
CARTER INKS FOUR DURING EARLY SIGNING PERIOD- University of Nevada head men's basketball coach David Carter signed three players to National Letters of Intent for the 2012-13 season. Guard Marqueze Coleman along with forwards Cole Huff, Raphael Carter and Cheikh (Ali) Fall will join the Pack next season.
Coleman, of Encino, Calif., is a 6-3, 180-pound shooting guard who averaged 13.1 points, 2.1 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks for Bishop Alemany High School in Mission Hills, Calif. last season. He earned first-team All-CIF and second-team Mission League honors following his junior year. The Warriors posted a 20-11 record last year.
The 6-8, 200-pound Huff from Altadena, Calif. attends Campbell Hall High School in North Hollywood, Calif. As a junior, the small forward averaged 16.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, 1.3 steals and 1.2 assists per game. He helped the Vikings to a 17-10 record last season.
Carter is a 6-8, 215-pound forward who is currently in his sophomore season at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, Calif. The Columbus, Ohio native earned first-team All-Big 8 Conference and honorable mention all-state honors as a freshman last season. He helped the Vikings to the conference title with a 13-1 mark and an overall record of 26-5. His freshman year he averaged 9.8 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game.
Fall is a 6-9, 240-pound center who is in his sophomore year at Barstow Community College in Barstow, Calif. Last season, Fall helped BCC to a first place finish in the Foothill Conference posting, a 10-4 mark and the team went 22-7 overall. Originally from Senegal, he attended Meitoku Gijuku School in Kochi, Japan. He earned All-Japan honors and was the top scorer and rebounder in the Western Conference during the 2007-08 season.

After shooting 26 percent against Missouri State and 32 at UNLV the Pack shot 69.2 percent in the first half and 58.3 percent in the game versus Pacific then shot 37.5 percent versus PVA&M.
After totaling 14 assists in the first two games Nevada had 18 in the Pacific game and 12 versus PVA&M.
Nevada has attempted 119 free throws on the season while opponents have attempted just 46. The 119 attempts is one more than New Mexico State's 118 among WAC?teams.
The Pack attempted 25 more free throws than PVA&M. Nevada has attempted 11 or more free throws than its opponents in every game.
Nevada has had a different leading scorer in all four games this season; Kevin Panzer (10 pts vs. MSU), Deonte Burton (28 pts at UNLV), Malik Story (18 pts vs. Pacific) and Jerry Evans, Jr. (11 pts vs. PVA&M).
Nevada had four players score in double figures in the Pacific game led by Story's 18. Olek Czyz (17), Jerry Evans, Jr. (11) and Kevin Panzer (11) also reached double digits.
Story made his first five field goals and went 6-of-7 against Pacific. He made all three of his attempts from behind the arc.
Panzer is averaging 7.5 points per game off the bench which is tied with Evans for fourth on the team. He tied his career high with 11 points versus Pacific and led the team with 10 in the Missouri State game. The two three pointers versus Pacific tied his career high.
After not scoring a field goal in the first two games senior forward Olek Czyz has reached double figures in back-to-back games with 17 against Pacific and 10 in the PVA&M?game. Czyz has led the team in first half scoring the past two games with 15 versus Pacific and seven against PVA&M.
Devonte Elliott's eight points in the Pacific game tied his career-high.
Evans three, 3-pointers against Pacific established a new career high. The 6-8 guard is second on the team in rebounding at 8.5 per game which is tied for sixth in the WAC. He grabbed a career-high 12 in the Missouri State game to lead the team and his seven at UNLV tied Dario Hunt for the honor. Evans has scored 11 points in each of the last two games. The 11 point outing against PVA&M?led the team. On the season he is shooting 42.9 percent which is tied for 13th in the conference.
In the last two games Hunt has grabbed double figure rebounds with 13 versus Pacific and 11 in the PVA&M game. Both were also games highs. He has led the Pack in rebounding three times in the first four games this season. Hunt has 19 career double figure rebound games and 40 times has led the Pack in rebounding in a game during his career.
Hunt's 10 rebounds per game are tied for fourth in the WAC. His four offensive rebounds per game leads the conference and six defensive boards per game is seventh.
Story's 12.0 points per game is 13th in the WAC?and Deonte Burton's 11.8 is 15th.
Nevada started the season 0-2 for the first time since 1993-94, when the Wolf Pack began the season 0-4 under head coach Pat Foster.
Burton scored a career-high 28 points, four more than his 24 at Louisiana Tech last year at UNLV (11/14/11). The 28 points is the high in the WAC?this season. Burton scored 20 of Nevada's 29 first half points. The 20 points is his career-high for a half.
The 28 points for Burton was his 25th career double-figure scoring game and the 11th time in his career he has led the Pack in scoring. It was also his seventh 20-point game at Nevada.
Burton made 11-of-14 free throws at UNLV. The 11 free throws equaled his career-high set versus Fresno State in the WAC Tournament last season.
Story's is shooting 90 percent from the free throw line to rank fourth in the WAC while Burton's 76 percent ranks 10th.
Two Nevada players rank in the top 15 in 3-point percentage in the conference. Story is sixth at 52.9 percent and Panzer's 35.7 percent is tied for 15th.
Story is eighth in the WAC?with 2.25, 3-pointers made per game.
Burton's four assists per game is fifth in the WAC and his 1.5 steals per game is tied for fifth. His 1.67 assist to turnover ratio is tied for fifth in the WAC.
Hunt is tied for third in the WAC?in blocked shots averaging 1.5 game and Elliott is tied for sixth at one per contest.
