FRESNO, Calif. - On the final day of the Fall season for the University of Nevada women's tennis team, Michelle Okhremchuk won two matches and the consolation A draw title at the Bulldog Classic Sunday.
Okhremchuk opened play Sunday by beating Erica Medlin of San Jose State 4-6, 6-0, ret. (win by retirement). Medlin was forced to leave the court with an apparent injury after losing the second set.
In the finals, Okhremchuk defeated Julija Lukac of Washington in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. This is Okhremchuk's second-career individual title and first of 2011. The sophomore from Doneck, Ukraine also won her flight at the ITA Regional Championships last season.
In doubles play, the teams of Okhremchuk and Faith Bassiouny and Emma Verberne and Juliette Legendre fell in the semifinals of the doubles A flight. On opposite sides of the draw, a win for each would have meant two Nevada teams in the finals and a guaranteed title for the Wolf Pack.
Nevada will open regular-season play on January 20, 2012 with a road test against Cal State Northridge.
