RENO, Nev. -

The University of Nevada rifle team was ranked fifth in the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association Poll released this week. The ranking comes on the heels of two impressive match starts by the team.

Nevada opened up the 2011-12 season in El Paso, Texas with a double-dual match win over the University of Texas-El Paso and Colorado State with a 4,622 point total. They followed that performance with an Ole Miss Invitational win, defeating the field with a tournament score of 2,355 points.

"The ranking is a testament to how well the team has performed in our first two matches." Head Coach Fred Harvey said. "We will have to work very hard to maintain the ranking."

The team has the weekend off and will travel to Jacksonville, Alabama next week for a match at Jacksonville State.
