BERKELEY, Calif. - The University of Nevada women's tennis team won eight matches on it first day of competition this season at the California Nike Invitational Friday.
Michelle Okhremchuk got off to a fast start for the second year in a row for the Wolf Pack, winning her first round match over Julia Wartenburger in the gold singles flight.
Along with teammate Emma Verberne, Okhremchuk is playing in the top draw for the second year in a row in Berkeley. Verberne lost her first round match Friday, while Okhremchuk was bumped in the round of 16.
Playing out of the blue singles flight, Sophie Stevens and newcomer Juliette Legendre won two matches Friday and advanced into the quarterfinals Saturday.
Advancing through the consolation draw in the white singles flight, Gabrelia Eufrasio and newcomer Faith Bassiouny each won a singles match Friday. They will continue play in the second-rated flight on Saturday Morning.
In doubles play, the Pack failed to earn a victory Friday.
