RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada swimming and diving team (3-6) finished 1-1 after facing Cal State University East Bay (1-7) and UC Davis (8-2) in a double-dual Saturday.
The Wolf Pack defeated CSU East Bay 203-28, sweeping most of the events. However, the Pioneers challenged the Pack in the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard breaststroke.
UC Davis eked out a 123-120 win over Nevada. The two teams exchanged leads throughout the meet before the Aggies secured their win.
Mengjiao Mi had another big meet for Nevada. The 2009 WAC Freshman of the Year claimed first in the 1,000-yard (10:34.80) and 500-yard (5:10.13) freestyle races. Mi also swam the final leg of Nevada's first-place 400-yard freestyle relay (2:41.01).
Gabby Guieb posted a time of 2:06.45 to finish first in the 200-yard butterfly. Guieb also took third in the 400-yard IM (4:37.73). Chavisa Thaveesupsoonthorn recorded a pair of second-place finishes. Thaveesupsoonthorn finished the 400-yard IM in 4:32.55 and posted a time of 2:06.63 in the 200-yard backstroke.
Newcomer Andrea Kostecki finished first in her first race for the Wolf Pack, the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.51). Kostecki also took third in the 100-yard freestyle (53.91) and helped Nevada's 400-yard freestyle relay team to victory (2:41.01).
The Nevada divers completed another sweep of the 1-meter and 3-meter events, with Grace Huang taking first on both boards (1-meter: 301.13; 3-meter: 306.45). Heather Ramirez posted a score of 263.55 on the 1-meter to finish second and took third on the 3-meter with a score of 274.73. Melyssa Charlton claimed third on the 1-meter (258.68). Stephanie Hanson's 303.15 earned her second-place on the 3-meter.
The Wolf Pack will face Seattle University in Seattle, Wash. Jan. 29 to conclude its regular season.
